Poetry Competition

RAFTERY RETURNS POETRY COMPETITION

A wonderful night of poetry music and craic hosted by our own Terry McDonagh was had in The Cill Aodain Court Hotel on Friday 29th October last where the presentation of the first poetry competition as part of the Raftery Returns Arts Festival was held. The prizes were sponsored as part of the Spot-Lit Literary Tourism programme.
The results were as follows:
1st Prize: Daragh Byrne – As it is in Heaven.
Unfortunately, Darragh is living in Australia and could not be with us. However, he was watching on live stream and was delighted to have won the competition.
2nd Prize: John McGrath – Leaving (July 1st 1966) travelled from Kerry to be with us.
3rd Prize: Art O’Suilleabhan – No Going back
travelled from Carnacon to be with us.
Our thanks to all entrants and especially to the winners and the competition judge, Ger Reidy.
The winning poem will be unveiled as part of a poetry trail in Kiltimagh on Raftery’s birthday, March 30th 2022.
